J&S Farms is a small family owned farm in Scotts, Michigan. In 2001, we bought our almost 30 acre property, which had been being used as a cornfield. In 2002, we planted our first fruit trees (peaches, of course), and in 2003 we built our home and freestanding barn. In 2004, we planted our first asparagus crop and have been expanding our fruits and vegetable offerings ever since.
We grow a little of a lot stuff. As in, we now have 2 acres of asparagus, 3 acres of peaches and nectarines, ½ acre of apples (for our award winning cider), 1/8 acre of potatoes, 3-300 ft. rows of green and wax beans and so forth. Not only does this give us a chance to try new varietals throughout the Michigan growing season, but our customers get a great mix of fresh fruits and vegetables too.
Our produce is primarily for sale at our local farmer's markets, local grocers and used in delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners at many favorite local restaurants. On occasion, we also put our produce out on our own roadside stand. Our roadside stand is especially active in the fall when we are selling winter squash and pumpkins.
We are not a u-pick farm, nor do we have a CSA (community supported architecture) program.
MAEAP Verification is a proactive program that helps farms of all sizes and all commodities voluntarily prevent or minimize agricultural pollution risks. MAEAP helps recognize farmers who reduce erosion and runoff from private land into public waters. We have been verified since 2015.
J&S Farms is owned and operated by James and Samantha Kreitner. Our farm is located in Scotts, Michigan.
We sell our homegrown produce, picked fresh by hand to ensure the highest quality available. We never compromise our standards of freshness and quality.
